This song is about Melanie having a lot she wanted to say to her boyfriend, but he walked out on her. Even when he was with her, he never truly listened to her. She could tell that their love wasn't going to work out; it wasn't going anywhere. It was an extremely one-sided relationship where the boy never listened to or communicated with Melanie.
